First Grade Writing

Sample Writing Activities ~ Sample Writing Plan

 

Sample Writing Activities:

  • Using simple pictures, teacher will model how to write one complete sentence about a picture. Students then practice independently.

  • Practice  writing activities that require copying from a model (chart stories, sentences, poems, ayaat, ahadith, labels, etc.)

  • Proofreading Activities

  • Writing of two or three sentences related to one topic

  • Writing a friendly letter utilizing the five parts (date, greeting, body, closing, and signature)

  • Using quotation marks and commas within writing

  • Constructing a complete declarative and/or interrogative simple sentence, using a capital letter, an ending punctuation mark, and incorporating noun/verb agreement

  • Develop utilizing the steps of the writing process(brainstorming, rough draft, editing, revising, and final copy

  • Write an opinion and support it with facts

Sample Writing Plan:

Day 1

  • Write about a picture or what is seen outside

  • Copywork (copy ayaat, ahadith, pages from books, labels, etc)

 

Day 2

  • Writing sentences using sentence frames

  • Copywork (copy ayaat, ahadith, page from book, labels, etc)

 

Day 3

  • Writing sentences using grammar concepts learned (capitalization, quotations marks, etc)

  • Copywork (copy ayaat, ahadith, page from book, labels, etc)

 

Day 4

  • Response to literature (using prompts)

  • Copywork (copy ayaat, ahadith, page from book, labels, etc)

 

Day 5

  • Proofreading activity

  • Copywork (copy ayaat, ahadith, page from book, labels, etc)
