Homeschooling Scheduling and Routines

Daily Homeschool  Sample Schedules from Homeschooling.About.com

TJ's Sample Homeschooling Schedule:

Sample Activities

Around 9 or 10 am:

  • Opener

Name writing practice, calendar activities (use the calendar, write the date--see Math Printables-Measurement section), journal activities (Islam4Everyday!) other handwriting practice (words, sentences)

  • Quraan/Islamic Studies*

Short review of some known surahs; new memorization

  • Math*

lesson, review, or game

  • English/Arabic (alternate days)

lesson,  or review

Note: most of the time we only get in one subject (math or English) during this time as it is difficult for me to coordinate 6 students and housework. If we do not do Islamic Studies in the morning, then we try to do it in the afternoon.

Dhuhr time:

  • Pray,

  • Eat lunch,

  • Clean up

  • Free time

  • Read Quraan/Quraan with little ones*

*We break up the number of surahs we know into five parts (one for after each prayer time) and ideally we recite those daily.  In reality, dhuhr, and asr are the only times we usually end up reciting because after maghrib, well, its hard to get anything academic done usually.

After Dhuhr:
  • Islamic Studies
lesson or oral review
  • History/Science
Lesson or read history/science articles or books. I usually read the material to them (even my older ones).
After Asr
  • Handwriting, journal, homework
  • Read Quraan
  • Computer game time*

* I have six that are at the age of playing computers games, well actually seven, my almost two year old has mastered using the mouse.  Each child has their own "computer day" where only they (in theory) get to play a game for 1 hour.
After Maghrib
  • Clean up
  • Free time
After Isha
  • Homework for older ones
  • Free reading time for older ones
  • Get ready for bed (younger ones)/bedtime

Sample Homeschooling Schedule II, submitted to TJ
