A. Introduction
There are many Names of Allah. Among them are:
Al-‘Aleem (the All Knowing)
Al-Baseer (the All Seeing)
Al-Samee’ (the All Hearing)
These are among Al-Asma' Al-Husna (the Best Names):

B. Guiding Ayaat/Ahadith
[007:180] And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allâh, so call on Him by
them, and leave the company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious
speech against) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do.

Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! To Him
belong the Best Names. TaHa: 8

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever
believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is
Witr (one) and loves 'the Witr' (i.e., odd numbers). (Saheeh Bukhari 8:419)

[017:110] Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "Invoke Allâh or
invoke the Most Gracious (Allâh), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the
same), for to Him belong the Best Names.

[059:024] He is Allâh, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of
forms. To Him belong the Best Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth
glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

C. Tafsir (from Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

(7:180):
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said,
(Verily, Allah has ninety-nine Names, a hundred less one; whoever counts (and
preserves) them, will enter Paradise. Allah is Witr (One) and loves Al-Witr (the
odd numbered things),) The Two Sahihs collected this Hadith. We should state
that Allah's Names are not restricted to only ninety-nine. For instance, in his
Musnad, Imam Ahmad recorded that `Abdullah bin Mas`ud said that the
Messenger of Allah said;
(Any person who is overcome by sadness or grief and supplicates, `O Allah! I
am Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your Hand. Your
decision concerning me shall certainly come to pass. Just is Your Judgment
about me. I invoke You by every Name that You have and that You called
Yourself by, sent down in Your Book, taught to any of Your creatures, or kept
with You in the knowledge of the Unseen that is with You. Make the Glorious
Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief
and the dissipater of my concern.' Surely, Allah will remove his grief and
sadness and exchange them for delight.) The Prophet was asked "O Messenger
of Allah! Should we learn these words'' He said,
(Yes. It is an obligation on all those who hear this supplication to learn it.) Al-
`Awfi said that Ibn `Abbas said about Allah's statement,
(and leave the company of those who belie His Names) "To belie Allah's Names
includes saying that Al-Lat (an idol) derived from Allah's Name.'' Ibn Jurayj
narrated from Mujahid that he commented,
(and leave the company of those who belie His Names) "They derived Al-Lat
(an idol's name) from Allah, and Al-`Uzza (another idol) from Al-`Aziz (the All-
Mighty).'' Qatadah stated that Ilhad refers to associating others with Allah in
His Names (such as calling an idol Al-`Uzza). The word Ilhad used in the Ayah
in another from means deviation, wickedness, injustice and straying. The hole
in the grave is called Lahd, because it is a hole within a hole, that is turned
towards the Qiblah (the direction of the prayer).

D. Ways to share this topic

1. Read/discuss the related ayaat (ayaat) and tafsir. Read/find other ayaat
with these Names. See Section F for a list of ayaat in which these
Names appear.

2. Read more about the Names of Allah at:
www.muttaqun.com/99names.html

3. Discuss what these particular three Names mean. How does/should
knowing these Names affect our behavior (don’t do certain things as we
know Allah hears & sees all)

4. Teach children that we should call upon Allah by these Names. “The
Names of Allah should be memorized, understood, acted upon, and
called upon.” (source: Muttaqun.com)

Narrated Abu Huraira:
e.g. if we need something, we might call on Allah as Ar-Razzaq (the
provider)

5. You might want to present/review the material in the following manner:
Q: Who is Al Baseer and what does this Name mean? Give a proof*.
A: Allah is Al Baseer. Al Baseer means All Seeing. One proof for this is
(e.g. 3:15 … ……..And Allâh is All-Seer of the (His) slaves.".
*assign memorization of a proof if you feel child is able to memorize
one.

Explore:
1. Lead children to the realization of how powerful Allah is that He can see,
hear, and know all. E.g. Have your child go outside of the room and you
do/say something. Can he tell what you did/say? No, but Allah knows.
(Do one thing each time, say something the first time, do something the
next, etc.)

2. Allah is All Knowing. Have children brainstorm some things that Allah
knows about our personal actions that any average person might not
know.

Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one,
and whoever believes in their meanings and acts
accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is Witr (one) and
loves 'the Witr' (i.e., odd numbers).
(Saheeh Bukhari 8:419)

3. Allah is All Seeing. Have children brainstorm about some things Allah
sees, that others cannot.

4. All is All Hearing. Have children brainstorm some things Allah hears
things that others cannot.

5. Stress to children that it is important that we do and say good things as
Allah can see everything and that we cannot hide bad words or actions
or even thoughts from Allah.

E. Across the Curriculum

Science:
Discuss/read books and articles about the senses of hearing and
seeing from your local library or the internet.

Math:
Have children count the number of times each Name appears in
the Quraan (see List in Section F)

Have children count from the surah number to ayaat (e.g. 4:93,
child counts from 4 to 93)

Have children read the ayaat numbers.

Have older children put the lists in order by ayaat.

Older children can divide the ayaah number by the surah number
(e.g. 4:93 so child divides 93 by 4).You can also multiply,
subtract, or add the surah and ayaat numbers.

Find out what percentage the surah number is of the ayaat
number.

English:
1. Make a set of mini books called The Names of Allah. In each book, have
child illustrate things that Allah sees, hears, etc. Also have them write
the words.

Make your own books from scratch or use TJ’s templates:
Make more books as you learn more Names.

See Names of Allah Mini Book Templates:
Names_of_Allah_minibooks_1_3.pdf included in downloaded zip folder

2. Or make a lapbook. See links in Section F for links for general lapbook
information.

3. Read: I Sense Islam, PowerPoint book from Talibiddeen Jr.

(file name subject to change. If link does not work, you can visit TJ’s
Online Library at TJ Library to get the current
link, insha Allah.

Arabic:
1. Let children write these Names of Allah or trace them or color them in.
Teach them that we should not throw anything with Allah’s Name in
Arabic away, but that we should burn it.

2. Teach/review with children the Arabic words for the things they
brainstormed in Part D.

3. Make Arabic versions of the Names of Allah books.

4. Give older children the list of ayaat in Section F, have them look up and
find the words Al-Baseer, Al ‘Aleem, and Al-Samee’ in Arabic in the
Quraan. Have them write the Name each time they find it. You can use
TJ’s copywork paper or copywork primary paper in the
downloaded zip folder.

5. Younger children: teach them/review with them, the letters that make
up these Names.

Copywork/Penmanship: Children can copy the ayaat or Names in
Arabic and/or English. You can use TJ’s Copywork Paper located in the
downloaded zip folder.

See AQ2_1_Color_Names_of_Allah worksheet in downloaded zip
folder.
See AQ2_1_Color_Names_of_Allah worksheet in downloaded zip
folder.
