Shahadah

Suggested reading:

The Testimony of Tawheed: What does it mean?

Saleh As Saleh

Filename: TheTestimonyOfFaith(TheShahaadah).pdf

I cannot remember where I got it from, but I am thinking it was from: www.understand-islam.net.

Discusses both parts of the shahadah as well as its conditions:

Conditions of the Shahadah:

1. Knowledge (ilm)

2. Certainty (yaqeen)

3. Purity and Sincerity (ikhlaas)

4. Truthfulness (As Sidq)

5. Love (Al Mahabah)

6. Compliance (Al inqiyaad)

Also contains: "The Shahadah: Is it enough to "say" it?"

Suggested activities:

  • Read to student/have student read and discuss

  • Assign comprehension questions or have student compose questions based upon his/her reading, then answer them.

  • Assign vocabulary (Arabic/English; especially the Arabic vocabulary of the conditions)

  • Have student answer the question "Is it enough to just say it?" in essay form with proofs.

  • Student should memorize the conditions and be able to explain them.

  • Provide a matching exercise by having student match the English condition with its equivalent Arabic condition.

For younger students:

  • Have them memorize the words of the shahadah only (with simple explanation of its meaning);

  • Have students practice writing the shahadah in Arabic;

  • Try to have student recognize the shahadah when written (use the words, laa, Allah, ilaha, Muhammad, rasul as sight words (Arabic/English); make flashcards for these words and drill/give dication regularly on them.
