What three things must a Muslim have knowledge of?

A Muslim

 must have knowledge

of three things:

A muslim must have knowledge of three things....

his Lord,

 his religion,

and his prophet

*******

Usooluth Thalaatha

Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab

Resources: Lesson  (below) ~ Learning Poster: "A Muslim Must Have Knowledge of Three Things"

Lesson 1: What three things must a Muslim know about? (have knowledge of)

(Printable copy of this lesson)

1.                  his Lord (rabbuhu)

2.                  his religion (deenuhu)

3.                  his prophet (nabbeeyuhu)

Why is it important to know these things?

The Prophet said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' "  The Prophet added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quraan).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns." (Saheeh Bukhari)

In the grave, after we die, we will be asked by angels, “Who is your Lord, What is your religion, and Who is your prophet?” The kuffar will not be able to answer these questions.

In addition, knowing about these three things will help us worship Allah better,  live our lives better, and practice our religion better, insha Allah.

Text Box: Things to Do: Memorize the answer to this question (What must a Muslim have knowledge of) (in Arabic if possible)

What is a Lord?

Rabb (ربّ)is Lord in Arabic. Ar-Rabb is the owner who has full say-so over his property. In Arabic it also means the one who has the say so to lead.  A king or queen has the say so over a country or kingdom only.  Allah has the say so over everything.

When it is alone, the word Rabb is used only for Allah. As for other than Allah, it can be used to say Rabb Ad-Dar, the master of such and such object. Further, it was reported that Ar-Rabb is Allah's Greatest Name. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Suratul fatihah).

Allah is your lord. He is also the lord of everything. He has control over everything and the say so to lead everything. Kings, queens, presidents and other leaders do not have anywhere near the say so that Allah has.

Say: Allah is my Lord. (Allahu rabbee)

Text Box: Things to do:

Practice writing the word Lord in Arabic and English.
Make a sight word flashcard of the word Rabb/Lord to hang on the wall or start a word list in a notebook.  Also write the sentence: “Allah is my Lord.”  Arabic and English. Read this sentence often.
Memorize:Allah is my Lord. (Allahu rabbee)

What is religion?

Religion is the belief in a God (or gods) or other power that controls everything.

There are many religions in the world such as Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Islam is your religion. Allah tells us that there is only one true religion and that is Islam: And whoever seeks a religion other than Islâm, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. (3:85) and  Truly, the religion with Allâh is Islâm.(3:19)

One word for religion in Arabic is “deen.”    دين

Say: Islam is my religion (Islamu deenee)

Text Box: Things to Do:

Practice writing the word religion in Arabic and English.
Make a sight word flashcard of the word Deen/religion to hang on the wall or start a word list in a notebook.  Also write the sentence: “Islam is my religion.” Arabic and English.  Read this sentence often.
Memorize:  Islam is my religion (Islamu deenee)

What is a prophet?

A prophet is someone that Allah sends to people with “glad tidings” and warnings. This means that Allah sends them to tell us about the wonderful reward that awaits the believers (Jannah) and to warn us of the Hellfire.  Allah also gave the Prophets “scriptures” to guide and teach people.

There are 25 prophets that are mentioned in the Quraan.  Only Allah knows how many prophets there really are.  Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is the last of the prophets and he is your prophet.

Say: Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is my prophet. (Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) nabbeeyee.

Text Box: Things to Do:

Practice writing the word prophet in Arabic and English.
Make a sight word flashcard of the word prophet/deen to hang on the wall or start a word list in a notebook.  Also write the sentence: “Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) is my prophet.” Arabic and English.  Read this sentence often.
Memorize:  Islam is my religion (Islamu deenee)
