There are eight parts of speech in the English language:
Part of Speech | Examples |
Nouns people, places, things, ideas |
boy, tree, library, love |
describe nouns | red, soft, big |
Pronouns take the place of nouns | he, they, she, we |
express action or being | run, jump, were |
Adverbs modify verbs | quickly, later, here, very |
show relationship of a word to other words in a sentence | in, at, on |
Conjunctions join words or groups of words | but, and, or |
Interjections exclamations expressing emotion | Oh! Yeah! Wow! |
