Writing Curriculum

Below is a sample writing "curriculum" that I made for our writing instruction.

There are basically four main modes of writing (descriptive, expository, persuasive, narrative) and each mode can be broken down into further categories. See http://www.kimskorner4teachertalk.com/writing/menu.html for explanations of each mode.

My approach was to rotate back and forth between the four categories, i.e. one week descriptive writing, say writing about a person, the next week, expository-compare two things, the next week, persuasive writing, and so forth, cycling between the four categories.

Directly below is a sample curriculum for 52 weeks of writing instruction.  Prompts have been added to correlate with the 52 Week Islamic Studies Outline topics.

Directly under that is the original list that I compiled without the actual assignments.

You may want to use the Sample Weekly Writing Plan to structure each week.
