Should You Teach Typing in the Homeschool?
If you are on the fence about teaching typing, here are a few resources that might help you make your decision.
For Teaching Typing
"Learning to keyboard is an important skill. It potentially frees those students whose writing output is slowed by the act of putting pencil to paper. This writing effort may inhibit the student's ability to be creative and to do their best."- Keyboarding and Your Child: Keys to Success
Why children should learn to type
Against Teaching Typing

When to start teaching/how to teach
Most resources I came across discussed starting teaching students at around 9/10 years of age.
"All kids do not have the eye-hand motor coordination to learn keyboarding skills earlier than that." (Education World)
I have seen typing programs and that some schools do teach typing before this age though as well.

but at the end of the page there is mention of typing goals. While not
specifically geared towards children, it shows what goals they can work
towards for specific purposes (personal goal 30-35, for a job 40wpm, for a
strong typist, 60wpm, and more speeds are listed.)

For the older kids
Stamina Typing Program.

I use the drills from the PDF here,
Keyboarding Practice, and put them into Stamina (under lesson editor) to
create our own lessons. The kids prefer these drills to the lessons that come
with Stamina. I repeat each line of drill on the PDF enough times to make about
160 or so characters and this counts as one drill/lesson for us.
For the younger kids
Animated Beginning Typing from FlixProd.
Simple drills and when a drill is completed, there is a
little animated sequence for kids to view.
